Titled

No. Not a letter offering me a gong (which would, in the highly unlikely event, go straight back with a ten page rant on what I think of the honours system, the government of this country, royalty, and anything else I can think of just to make my position clear).

I have titles for the four Charlie books. All official.

They were chosen provisionally quite some time ago, but now I have permission to use them. Permission was necessary as they are from the lyrics of a song, one that has been key to my psyche since it was first released in 1971.

The song is by one of the truly great British singer/songwriters, Roy Harper. The song is ‘The Same Old Rock’ from the album Stormcock.

The four Charlie books will, therefore, be:

Thin Reflections
The Mirror That Is Made
All The Colours In A Shade
Once Upon A Chance

So woo hoo and Hats off to Harper.

Cheers Roy.

Congrats for that, Graeme - another piece of the puzzle falls into place :-) Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving nice comments! I'd almost forgotten about that pink, wobbly, rubbery-ish blancmange... x

Splendid news for you, Graeme. Keep writing! Thanks for calling in on my blog, as you can see I'm not a writer!! I don't know the song, will have to find it and listen,

papoosue: Thanks. Hopefully there will be enough intriguing bits of puzzle to keep people reading.

bt: My pleasure. It is a great song. Well worth seeking out (well, I think so, anyway).

anne: Many thanks, Anne. Still smiling several days on.

Congratulations, Graeme - that's brilliant news! And interesting to know that you needed to seek permission to use song lyrics as titles. I sent a story out recently and the title was a title of a song. I guess, if it was accepted (ha ha) I would need to change the title or seek permission. Never thought of that!

Hi Annie. Titles can't be copyrighted so you wouldn't need permission, although it is always good to acknowledge the source. I could probably have got away with one title, but with all four from the same song, permission was necessary (and even if it wasn't I would still have asked as Roy Harper is something of a musical hero of mine).

Cheers, Zinnia. It kinda shows, doesn't it. Man. \/

Was it a difficult process to get a hold of Roy Harper or his "people"?

I just wouldn't know where to even start if I ever had to do anything like that.

Going through someone's agent or, if you don't know who that is, through a publisher of something recent, is the usual course. Most writers, artists, and musicians have their own website with contact details. Those that do are clearly open to being contacted, and are often happy to respond if they have the time.

Struggling a bit at the moment - way too humid for my brain to work. Or something.

Well done on signing up for the course. Will no doubt see you on the forums.
